| What kind of semiotics
can be developed in the domain of the theatre? Is it necessary, as Anne
Übersfeld suggests in this issue and previously, to focus on the status
of language in the medium, and thus to include a pragmatic treatment of
this form of communication, in order to make sense of its poetic value?
Must we, as Kalinowski (1985) argues in his Sémiotique et philosophie,
make clear distinctions between the denotational and intensional functions
of language, so that reference to real objects can be treated differently
from the procedures by which words evoke values, judgements and imaginary
structures, which apparently operate in a distinct manner in cognition?
In this issue we aim to trace the current state of theatre analysis, progressing from an investigation on the senses in which such an endeavor can meaningfully be undertaken, to an appraisal of the importance of the applied aspect of the field. Deadline: April 1st 1997 |

une sémiotique théâtrale devrait-elle apparaître
aujourd'hui? Faudrait-il, comme l'avance Anne Übersfeld ici et ailleurs,
y intégrer une interrogation de type pragmatique, afin de pouvoir
rendre compte des dimensions poétiques de la parole au théâtre?
Serions-nous obligés, comme le suggère Kalinowski (1985)
dans son livre Sémiotique et philosophie, de reconnaître
de manière explicite une distinction ontologique entre les fonctions
désignatives et intensionnelles du langage, de façon à
ce que le fonctionnement de la référence aux objets réels
soit distingué de celui de la signification- par laquelle la parole
se réfère à des valeurs, des jugements et des structures
imaginaires?
Dans ce numéro notre but est d'examiner l'état actuel de la sémiotique théâtrale à partir d'une investigation des limites de ce domaine, pour en venir à l'aspect proprement appliqué de la science. Date limite : le 1er avril 1997 |
