Blaise Cendrars

(1887-1961)

Ink sketch of Blaise Cendrars by Yves Brayer

Born Frédéric Sauser at La Chaux-de-Fonds, in Switzerland, he adopted the pseudonym Blaise Cendrars (suggesting burning coals, ashes and art) in Paris, in 1907. One of the first to write unpunctuated poems. Influenced by the cinema to produce works of visual immediacy, of dynamic sponteneity.
